I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8, NRSV.
Cathy Harrell Bruner left us on September 14, 2017 after a valiant struggle with cancer. She was born on June 13, 1953 to Jim and Patty Harrell, both of whom predeceased her. She had one sister Terri Binford, a niece Blythe Sheene (Todd, Grace and Henry) and a nephew T.R. Binford (Maria, Lily and Andrea). She was also predeceased by her former husband, Jim Bruner.
She was a 1971 graduate of New Albany High School. Cathy was employed throughout her life at a variety of places, most significantly Scribner Junior High School, Humana and the headquarters of the Presbyterian Church (USA).
Cathy loved to ride motorcycles and loved the beach. She was a snappy dresser and a vivacious friend. She never met a stranger whether it was on an airplane or waiting for chemo. All of her friends will miss her terribly. We look forward to the day when we will be reunited and can as Cathy would have put it “bust a move.” Our sincere hope for her is that she and her loved ones are sitting on a beautiful gulf beach, strawberry daiquiri in hand and a never ending supply of fabulous chocolate desserts waiting nearby.
Cathy chose to be cremated. There will be visitation at 1pm on October 14, 2017 at the Seabrook Funeral Home at 1119 Market Street, New Albany, IN. A memorial service will follow at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association or Hosparus of Louisville and Southern Indiana.
